Van Zyl studied at the University of Stellenbosch and qualified as an attorney in 2005. She was employed as head of conveyancing at a reputable firm in Somerset West in 2007 whereafter she practiced as a director and co-founder of Rapp van Zyl Attorneys in Cape Town from 2008 to 2018
